Quickstart for Hindsight

Hindsight gives AI agents persistent memory, store facts through an API or MCP server, and recall them later with semantic search powered by embeddings. Everything needed to extract and store memories runs locally on your own server: the embedding model, the reranker, and the Postgres + pgvector database that holds memory banks and their vector embeddings. The only external dependency is the LLM provider you configure, used to extract and reason over what gets remembered. Access is controlled by a single server-side access key rather than user accounts, the same key protects the web console, the REST API and the built-in MCP server, so any MCP-compatible agent client can connect directly. Python and TypeScript client libraries are available for integrating memory storage and recall into your own applications.

Deploy Hindsight on Elestio

1. Open the Hindsight deployment page and sign in, or create an account.
2. Choose a cloud provider, a region and a data center. Pick the region closest to your users for the lowest latency.
3. Choose an instance size. Elestio only lists the sizes that can run Hindsight properly (at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB of RAM).
4. Choose your support plan and the maintenance window for system and software updates (times are in UTC).
5. Click Create Service. Hindsight is deployed and ready in a few minutes, and you receive an email with the access details.

Access Hindsight

Open your service in the Elestio dashboard and go to the Overview tab. Click Display Admin UI to reveal the URL, username and password of your Hindsight instance.

If the password field is blank, Hindsight does not ship with a pre-created admin user: open the admin URL to start its setup. Software without a web interface, such as databases, is reached with the credentials and port listed in the same tab. See Admin UI and credentials.
