Quickstart for UserTour

Usertour lets product teams build step-by-step onboarding tours, tooltips, checklists and in-app surveys to guide users through a product, without writing custom onboarding code into the app itself. It's positioned as an open-source alternative to commercial user-onboarding SaaS tools like Userflow and Appcues, letting teams self-host their onboarding flows and data. The stack bundles Postgres and Redis alongside the main application for data storage and caching. Access to the app requires setting up an admin account via a first-boot mutation, and there's no self-serve signup without an invite in the deployed configuration. It's aimed at product and growth teams who want full control over onboarding content and user data rather than depending on an external SaaS.

Deploy UserTour on Elestio

1. Open the UserTour deployment page and sign in, or create an account.
2. Choose a cloud provider, a region and a data center. Pick the region closest to your users for the lowest latency.
3. Choose an instance size. Elestio only lists the sizes that can run UserTour properly (at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB of RAM).
4. Choose your support plan and the maintenance window for system and software updates (times are in UTC).
5. Click Create Service. UserTour is deployed and ready in a few minutes, and you receive an email with the access details.

Access UserTour

Open your service in the Elestio dashboard and go to the Overview tab. Click Display Admin UI to reveal the URL, username and password of your UserTour instance.

If the password field is blank, UserTour does not ship with a pre-created admin user: open the admin URL to start its setup. Software without a web interface, such as databases, is reached with the credentials and port listed in the same tab. See Admin UI and credentials.
